Community Resident/Leader Wanted for Health and Fitness Program.
The uGO Challenge is an 8-week program that connects local families with free fitness and nutrition information and tips. Families of all ages and fitness levels exercise with uGO on eight Saturday mornings in order to jumpstart healthy lifestyles. Saturdays include a walking/running group and health chat as well as two health screenings on the first and last days of the challenge.
This summer, uGO will implement the 8-week uGO Challenge as part of Get Active 58th!, an exciting program to activate the newly constructed 58th Street Greenway, a project of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (see summary below). uGO will schedule the Challenge on July 14, 21, 28, August 4, 11, 18, 25, September 8, 2012 between 8AM and 12PM depending on the needs of the uGOers.
Time Period: June 1 – September 10
Compensation: $400.00 stipend (PEC will determine pay cycle)
uGO Ambassadors
uGO Ambassadors are Southwest Philadelphia residents who are committed to active living and motivating friends and family members to live healthier lives. uGO Ambassadors are outgoing and excited to connect with uGO participants before and during the Challenge to encourage them to be active and exercise in their community.
Responsibilities
uGO Ambassadors will be expected to recruit neighbors and residents within Southwest Philadelphia at community meetings, door-to-door knocking, and outside at community hubs to participate in the uGO Challenge
Evening and weekend outreach in addition to attendance at the Challenge is required. Ambassadors will:
1. Listen – Distribute survey and recruit Southwest Philadelphia residents between May and July to attend the uGO Challenge. Goal: Attendance of 50ppl per week during the Challenge
2. Share –healthy active living tips and information with uGOers during the uGO Challenge.
3. Support – Ambassadors will call uGOers weekly to check-in with them.
Qualifications
• Excellent ability to build strong interpersonal relationships
• Ability to work well in a team and enhance cooperative working relationships
• Knowledge of fitness and healthy eating highly desirable but not required
• Has a desire to improve the health outcomes for neighborhood residents

For the past two years, residents and leaders in Southwest Philadelphia worked with PEC and key local agencies to design the 58th St. Greenway, a 1.4-mile multi-use trail that will connect Bartram’s Garden to the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge via the Cobbs Creek Parkway, while improving the safety and condition of sidewalks and intersections along the trail. The City is overseeing construction.

With the greenway under construction, it’s time to Get Active 58th! This exciting new program will launch this summer in partnership with uGO, Neighborhood Bike Works, City Lights Coalition, and Southwest CDC to get neighbors outdoors to participate in fun events that promote physical activity and healthier communities near the greenway.
